Mike Hoffelt is your Dallas child proofing consultant serving the DFW metro area. He is a highly valued team member for his hard work, attention to detail and humor. We asked Mike a few questions about child safety and his personal life.
IH: What do you like about being the Dallas child proofing consultant?
Mike: I enjoy meeting the parents and their small children. It is a great feeling when a parent says to me after the job, that they can have some peace now. It\’s also great knowing that we have helped these kids avoid potential injury.
IH: What is your favorite child safety item to install?
Mike: Definitely installing gates would be my favorite. Every child safety gate is different and it really is an art, in some cases. It\’s fun to figure out the puzzle and get creative when needed.
IH: What is the most common overlooked hazard that you encounter when doing child safety evaluations?
Mike: Securing furniture and TV\’s is the item that I stress as being under appreciated during consultations. This issue is the longest lasting child safety hazard that we have and many parents just don\’t see the priority. So, it often takes a demonstration of how easy it is to tip furniture. Of course, if a child is pulling or climbing furniture and it does tip over, it would likely land on top of them and be traumatic for the whole family.
IH: What is the most common compliment you receive from clients?
Mike: I work with a lot of parents that are very particular about the appearance of their home. When they are concerned about having an eyesore installed in their home, we can usually make them very happy with the list of child safety products that we use. I can\’t tell you how many times I have seen a proud parent showing off their child safety gate or cabinet locks to a visitor.
IH: How long have you lived in the Dallas area and what do you like best?
Mike: I have lived in the Dallas area for 21 years. I find the Dallas area to be an excellent place to raise a family. Our neighborhood is full of kids and great schools are close by.
IH: What activities do you like to do in the Dallas area?
Mike: I certainly attend my share of Rangers, Stars, and OU football games. I also play basketball, ride my motorcycle, and from time to time sing karaoke with friends.
IH: Please tell us about your family.
Mike: My wife and I have a daughter that is early elementary school age. We now have 3 dogs, 1 cat, and 2 frogs. A favorite activity of ours is going to the beach. We do it a couple of times a year typically, sometimes traveling a long ways to do so.
